RUAE (Close reading)
Building on their National 5 foundations, we’ll sharpen close reading for Higher. Having an online English tutor and studies coach means your teenager will learn to analyse language with greater precision, handle more demanding passages, and tackle the evaluative and comparative questions with calm, practised confidence.
Critical reading
Having studied literature at National 5, your teenager is ready for deeper exploration. We’ll refine their critical essay and Scottish text responses, developing sophisticated argument, close textual analysis and a clear, assured voice that meets the higher standard expected.
Portfolio
Your teenager already knows the portfolio process from National 5. At Higher, we’ll raise the skills together, crafting polished, original pieces with greater depth and control, with thoughtful feedback at every stage so the final work feels truly their own.

Higher is a step up, and it’s natural to feel that. Because your teenager has already succeeded at National 5, we’ll build on that proven ability, strengthening their belief in their own ideas so they enter the exam calm and self-assured.
Stress-free
Our sessions are calm, unhurried and paced to your teenagers, with clear plans and encouragement, so learning manageable for them. It's important they feel calm and confident so they're prepared for their next steps, which may be Advanced Higher or University,Â

Every lesson is just me and your teenager, with my full attention. Having already completed National 5, they bring valuable experience, and I’ll build on it, tailoring each session to their strengths, goals and the step up to Higher.
